I was wonderig what other hobbies you guys have. I used to make rockets. I've been making the small ones again, but use to fire off the ones that need an FAA waiver. I have also played around with knife making and quilting. Outside of that my wife, parrot and dog keep me pretty busy. If I had a place to do it, I would be bladesmithing. Making knives from kits is a lot of fun, but I like the forging route. Right now I am also Geocaching. Anyone do this at all. Loads of fun and gets you out:)

I enjoy making knives, messing around with my tractor, pretending to be a pirate, things that go BOOM! I like eating animals that are lower on the food chain than I am. I like art and literature and porn. I dig the smell of the pavement when it first starts to rain, and the sunset on my farm in the summertime.
Warrior/ Poet/ Alkie/Regular Guy
Monkey:drunk:

I did woodworking for 10- 12 years but since have sold my equipment. I then starting building and repairing computers for family and friends and recently been playing with recording standard and high definition broadcasts on my computer. A personal TIVO.:)

My hobbies run in cycles. There's too many of them to handle all at once. Other than homebrewing, the short list right now is learning to play the guitar (and working on them), gun collecting, cooking, home improvement projects, and riding my motorcycle.

Don't know if you would call learning a foreign language a hobby, but I'm also learning Spanish. I also love to travel, especially to New Orleans.

I do woodworking when the garage isn't a mess. I also have 4 corn snakes.
Oh and once in awhile me and the kids launch model rockets.

Photography is probably my number one overall hobby followed by music and cars (working on, learning about). Also been a railfan my whole life through since my dad got me started at about 3 years of age.

Cars-I have a '77 MG Midget that I drive in the summer, and fix in the winter

Computers-Occupational Hazard, but I still enjoy it;specing out overhauling my current box right now

Computer Games-of all types

Golf-I try to golf a lot in the warmer months, and do a few trips every year with the father in law

Fishing-Fly Fishing and bait casting-deep sea when I get a chance

woodworking-on and off, more when there is a necessity;I have a decent amount of equipment horded over the last 6 years or so.

DIY-not so much a hobby as a fulfilling necessity

reading-a lot

Brewing-Just started in September, but this is a keeper!

Beermaker's got it dead on.

I watch a ton of horror movies, specifically zombie and 70s vampire flicks. Throwing around the idea of writing a book about the zombie cult, centered around the movies.

I work on cars... 425hp Mitsubishi Eclipse... and I have Saltwater Reef aquariums... plus dabble a little in the cigar area too... nothing like a good beer and a good cigar....

I'm with Lounge Lizard. My hobbies sort of run in cycles. But overall I enjoy gaming (both PC and console), collecting anime, music - mainly collecting / mixing, but I do some of my own stuff whenever the bug bites (Roland workstation and an old Korg) - working on the car (but no garage, so not often enough), and of course brewing. :)

And I'd concider learning a second language a hobby. I've been trying to teach myself Japanese off and on for the last few years and I still probably couldn't hold a conversation

I bought the first two levels (out of three) of the Pimsleur Spanish audio courses off of eBay. Dr Pimsleur's courses are the way to go. Highly recommended by a lot of folks, but a tad pricey. They are offered in Japanese. Check them out! :)

Constantly modifying my home/RV/car
Planting trees & shrubs. I pick up 100 douglas firs Wed. for the west slope.
Greyhounds!

wwII 1/48 scale static warbirds.. i have about twenty different planes, from four engine bombers down to the little fighters and scout planes i used to build before i started brewing.

computers/games...i like to geek out on medieval total war multiplayer. been playing that online since 2002, there is a hardcore group of geeks from around the word i know more about than the people on my street.

grilling meat over the coals... making hommade pizza.

hiking with my daughter in the metroparks or the neighbors wooded lots behind my house.

arguing with my wife :D

Fishing - mostly Fly fishing, Horses - have one lazy-ass quarter horse, and chasing a tennis ball around the court.

Rich, you should check out www.cccorns.com it is a co worker of mines web site she breeds corns and does genitic studies on coloring. She just hatched 2 clutches over the weekend.

Hunting
Cartridge Collecting
Fishing (saltwater)
Guitar (all kinds of music)
Running (eventually I'll run a Marathon, plus it offsets all the beer I consume)
Generally anything outdoors

I go rock-climbing, and see this actually as my primary hobby. Being 2+hrs from the closest decent cliff away, and having family, keeps me from going as often as I would like.

Kai

computers (currently brushing up my CSS and LaTeX skills)
language learning
knitting (by hand and machine)
hiking
fishing
camping
biking
beading
ceramics (although right now I don't have a pottery studio)
reading
music

How did I omit hiking? With the storm we got this weekend, this saturday should be perfect for a hike. Anyone else prefer snow-hiking? Perhaps I should go snowshoeing.

  • Fishing
  • Jumping on my motorcycle when ever I get the chance
  • MMORPG's played EQ for 5+ years until I left for EQ2 . . . Rogues rule:cool: played Pumbaa D'bane in a end game raiding guild got him to level 70 with 280 some AA points (for those who know WTF I am talking about)Will be Pogmo Thoin in Vanguard when it comes out this summer . . . Dorf Rogue of course
  • Reading WAY WAY WAY too many websites

Model Railroading (HO scale)
Here's some shots from the annual Railroad Days in Galesburg, Illinois. And I go to a big, annual show in Madison, WI each year and always celebrate after the show at my traditional stop - The Great Dane Brewpub!:D

And...
Cooking - especially BBQ
I have a nice smoker made in Uvalde, Texas that I use frequently.

Riding my motorcycle, it's the only time I can really clear my mind and enjoy. Especially long trips like the one I took a couple of years ago, me and a buddy of mine were gone for 12 days and logged 5000 miles, what a great time....And of course drinking all kinds of beer along the way.

I used to like blowing things up, then they took away my explosives.
I used to like driving really fast, then they took away my licence. (actually just gave out tickets but the other way sounded better)
I used to like shooting things but they made us licence our guns.
They take away my beer and I'll have to dig up that buried unlicenced rifle and kick some a$$!

Beermaker stole my thunder-- drinking my beer is number two.

Let's see, after that:

cooking
camping
reading
photography

Speaking of photography, it has been a hobby of mine for over 20 years. The problem with it is I'm just not that good at it, no matter how hard I try. The thing that has made me happy about homebrewing is that it is something I feel I can do well. (At least I like my beer. I don't know about anyone else). I'm not saying I think I would any blue ribbons at contests, but I've been pretty satisfied with my results so far.

Motor boating. I love motor boating. Some might call me a motor boating sunuvabitch . . . :rockin:

Is that a reference to a David Zindell book? The warrior/poet?

Never heard of David Zindell. I've heard the term used to describe Samurai. I was comin from a description I heard of Ben Franklin. Philosopher/ Beer Drinker. Had to add my own stuff in there.:rockin:

Brewing, driving, fixing or building anything, Dungeons and Dragons, PC gaming, writing, car audio, cooking, making love.

Wait a minute, when did we get that banana-man as a smilie? Is that peanut butter jelly song about what I think it is?

:ban: Yeah, you. What the heck are you about, anyway? Spill the beans or get peeled.
