I've never brewed a porter before...so here's the recipe I just made -- doe sit look alright?

Robust Porter

7.25 lb Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) Grain 70.73 %
1.00 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 40L (40.0 SRM) Grain 9.76 %
1.00 lb Victory Malt (25.0 SRM) Grain 9.76 %
0.50 lb Chocolate Malt (450.0 SRM) Grain 4.88 %
0.50 lb Roasted Barley (300.0 SRM) Grain 4.88 %
0.60 oz Nugget [13.00 %] (60 min) Hops 26.1 IBU

As far as yeast...I was tempted to rack directly onto my Wyeast English Ale...or try a Notty packet...or get am American Ale II Wyeast...

Also planning on secondary addition of a few vanilla beans for a final vanilla porter to mesh with (what I think) will be a nice coffee element from the recipe.

Thanks!

Sounds solid, but with a pound of dark malt you'll be walking that fine line between robust porter and stout. I'd go with the English yeast since you are going light on the hops.

Maybe split the batch and add a vanilla bean(s) to half of it so you have a bit of variety.
