Difference between astringency and bitterness

My tastes are not that well refined so I need help determineing what im tasteing
is there a simple example of astringency taste?
 
Bitter is a taste, astringency is a feeling. Unsweetened chocolate is bitter, an over-steeped tea bag is astringent.
 
If you take black tea and steep it too long, you get astringency. Its that feeling where your mouth kind of dries out. Some red wines do this too. It is often associated with tannins. The wikipedia entry for it also mentions banana peels.

Bitterness is like dark chocolate with lots of cocoa.

That is how I'd explain it anyway - perhaps someone else has more examples.

+1, some red wines are an excellent example.
 
Eat the strings on the inside of a banana peel. It's dry and makes your mouth feel like it's sucking in on itself.
