My primary is a bucket (normal "Ale Pail" sort of deal), wondering how folks deal with blowoff, or is that only an issue with carboys for primary ferment?

It seems like the hose would fit through the drilled hole without the grommet, but it's not really all that airtight, and I'd prefer something to maintain the sanitary conditions in the bucket...

One way is to take your bottling wand, put a small slit in it...Heat it for a few minutes in hot water to soften, then do this.

Better to spend the extra minute to set up a blowoff than the extra 20 it takes to clean up the mess you can get from not using one. I use the same method as Revvy describes above.

I've gotten lucky on my jackass, ill-executed Hefeweizen first batch... no blowoff, and we're on day 3, hoping it stays that way :)
