So I brewed my 4th batch of beer today, A Brewers Best kit, English Brown Ale. But, I added 8 oz. of Crushed Roasted Barley. Darkened my brew quite a bit. This gave it almost a "coffee" or "dirt" smell according to my daughter. Normal ingredients are as follows:

3.3 Plain Amber Malt Extract
2lbs Plain Amber Dry Malt Extract
8 oz. Crushed Crystal Malt 60L
1 oz. Willamette Bittering Hops
1/2 oz. Willamette Finishing Hops
5oz. Priming Sugar
1 Package Yeast

Any thoughts on what the taste will be? B.T.Y. My hydrometer broke in half just before I could take a reading, so I will check it in 7 days when I transfer to the secondary. Thanks!

Well, seems like you've made yourself a stout. Roasted barley is the classic ingredient in a stout. It may not be quite as dry as a classic Irish dry stout, but that's what you've got. Prost!
