I am just thinking about starting kegging, and am interested in converting a freezer to a kegerator like the one shown here. I'm thinking, if I get this kit then all I need is a co2 can, a corny, and freezer thermostat control (plus of course the wood for the project).

I guess my question is 2 fold. Is this correct? And if so, does anyone know of a cheaper place to purchase the equipment online (its much more expensive as my local stores)?

I appreciate anyones assistance.

That kit contains a fitting for half barrels and not cornys... Compare with this one..

These are corny fittings

Best value may depend shipping at some point.
http://www.northernbrewer.com is in MN
http://morebeer.com is in CA

Some also like AustinBrewing and there's a place in the SE that escapes me. but they had an outstandingly cheap set up.

EDIT: It's in this thread.

Also determine the maximum amount of taps that you can envision ever wanting and then maybe add one so that you can plan ahead. There's somenone on this board with a chest freezer with 8? taps. If you want more than 1, (I'd go at least 4) you're going to need a manifold.

Here's mine (not a chest freezer though:

How much are you looking to spend? You can go cheap or expensive. new or used freezer or fridge. It would be great to buy a new chest freezer, kegging set up , thermastat, taps handles kegs. But you can get great results with a used fridge out of the local paper or cragis list. I suggest you start with a used fridge to perfect your designs and asperations. The items you were looking at look great except for the sanke adapters, you need corny adapters.

I got a fridge off of craigs list for 50 bucks and turned it into a 2 tap keg fridge. Now I am going to the new fridge to make my masterpiece.

I don't really have a specific budget in mind, but am looking for the cheaper end. I am planning on buying a used freezer off craigslist which I have seen fairly new ones in the $50-$75 range for ~10cuft. I was planning on getting the CO2 and Corny locally.

The morebeer.com kit looks nice but I can't imagine its going to cost me $160 for the co2 and used corny so that seems like alot more money. Can't I just buy the ball lock gas in and bev out adapters for $5ea to complete the kit I pasted (and then also be able to use a standard keg with it if needed)?

I like eBay for digital temperature controllers. The Ranco ETC-111000 will work perfectly for your freezer conversion. You just plug it in between the freezer and the wall outlet, set the freezer on full cold, and it does the rest.
