Many of the leaves on my Crystal, which was the first to sprout, are
exhibiting upward curling or cupping along the edges. After a strong
start, growth has slowed some, though we've had a lot of cool,
somewhat damp weather (looks like that will improve). Other than the
curling, I think the leaves look normal. The leaves are a very dark
green though, maybe too dark green?
My Sterlings, which have been a little slow to get going, look like
they might be showing some of the same symptoms, though the leaves are
not as dark green.
Hallertauer are picking up steam, though there are light-colored
spots on the leaves. I have to check for aphids? I've seen lady bugs
on the plants, so I'm not sure I want to spray yet.
The Saaz continues to look like it's doing the best. It's a nice and
bright green with a hint of gold, and after a day of decent sunshine, looks like it might
have grown over an inch.
All mounds are just the dirt from my yard (pretty rich stuff) mixed with 1/2 a bag of compost/manure per mound.
Anyway, back to the Crystal: Does anybody have an idea what might be
causing this, and if it's any real problem? I don't think it's so bad that I need to freak out, yet. As a matter of fact, the same rhizome has put up another shoot, and it would appear the second rhizome has sprouted. I've looked around, and
though it's tough to find info that's hop specific, it could be anything from too much or too little water, to a
calcium deficiency and/or PH issue, but I dunno.
