This weekend I will be transferring my pumpkin ale from primary to secondary. The kit instructions say to add the 2nd packet of spices to the secondary. Should I just go ahead & dump them in? Any sanitization issues with that?....should I maybe dissolve them in a cup of boiled water instead?

I wouldn't be terribly worried about the sanitation of the spices (unless they are moldy). If you are really worried about it, I'd go ahead and do the boiled water.

You should have no worries about adding the spices directly to the fermenter. I ahve done that many times and have never had a sanitation problem. There is enough alcohol in the secondary to handle any kind of bacteria that may be hanging out on those spices. Good luck- Where did you get the recipe?:mug:
