Can you figure this out?

I've had 2 people send me this link http://www.quizyourprofile.com/guessyournumber.swf
and they couldn't figure out how it's done. I figured it out pretty quick. How long did it take you?

Sometimes people overestimate the complexity of the simple puzzles and overlook the obvious answer.

I was thinking even before the computer programming. My friends couldn't even figure out how their number could be figured out from the info they gave. I caught the trick right away and had to explain it to them. Maybe I need to hang out with smarter folks.
