Has anyone ever experimented replacing some percentage of sugar with malt? I know the Swedish soda Julmust has some malt and hops in it. I had some while I was in Sweden and it tastes like a spiced cola.
For another idea, head down the Latin isle in your grocery store and look for Malta Goya. Its kind of half way between a non-alcoholic beer and a malt soda.
Nasty stuff if you ask me, but my wife grew up drinking the stuff and loves it.
