Please help me get more information on a tap handle

Today my wife's grandfather gave me an old tap handle as a gift since he knows I like to brew and drink beer.

It is about 3 inches tall made of brass (I think) with an orange tint to it and black paints details including a name button on it that says Gus (interesting since my wife's grandfather's name is also Gus). It is from the Old Reading Brewery and from little I could find dates back to the 1940s.

All I have found really so far is this website claiming to be the brewery's historical website:

I emailed the address listed only to have it bounce back with references to Legacy Brewing (who is actually bringing back the Reading Premium brand, I think) so I forwarded on the email to their information site.

The only other bits I have found are old eBay listings with this one having the best pictures:

Any info you guys can dig up would be great. It has returned to the workforce on my number one tap of my keggerator dispensing homebrew with a smile!

Yes, Legacy is brewing Old Reading again and lookin' to ride the nostalgia wagon.

IIRC, "old gus" was the nickname given to Old Reading beer in general, like how we call yuengling lager just "lager"...dunno if the character was old gus, if it preceeded or followed the nickname.

I stopped at Legacy a while back, they are being contracted to brew for Reading.
