Hey,

I'm brewing this weekend from leftovers. I as wondering if the following recipe was going to yield something good or not. I'm using Beersmith and so far it has proven incredibly useful :fro:

5 gallons

8,00 lb Pale Malt (6 Row) US (2,0 SRM) Grain 91,4 %
0,75 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 80L (80,0 SRM) Grain 8,6 %
0,50 oz Nugget [13,00%] (60 min) Hops 24,9 IBU
0,50 oz Williamette [5,50%] (10 min) Hops 3,8 IBU
1 Pkgs Irish Ale (Wyeast Labs #1084) Yeast-Ale

Estimated Original Gravity: 1,046 SG (1,044-1,060 SG)
Estimated Final Gravity: 1,012 SG (1,010-1,014 SG)
Estimated Color: 9,6 SRM (9,0-18,0 SRM)
Bitterness: 28,7 IBU (17,0-28,0 IBU) Alpha Acid Units: 1,3 AAU
Estimated Alcohol by Volume: 4,4 % (4,0-6,0 %)

I'm thinking of maybe using more pale but that's all I have in bulk.

Thanks!

Ahhhh. Simplicity.

:D

I love simple grists. Most leftovers beers have an ounce of this, two ounces of that. Thank you for keeping it simple!

This sounds like an excellent Pale or Amber Ale. With that much 80L Crystal, I think you're going to end up on the Amber side of the line, especially as that level of hops is what I'd call "muted" for an APA. Whatever you call it, it's going to be yummy! Hell, I think I'm going to nick this and try it myself! ;)

Cheers,

Bob

Thanks for the feedbak all!

I stumbled upon another leftover and I think I'm gonna let myself be tempted. I'm gonna add 0,25 lbs of chocolate malt. I love bitter reds and this boosts the SRM to 16,3 :rockin:

Irish red ale here I come !!
