I have always just wove the newest shoot of a particular hop vine around the stringer that is holding the others. It dawned on me late this summer, should I only let 1, 2, or maybe only 3 shoots take to each stringer and cut all additional shoots to concentrate the energy into the initial one(s)?

2-3 bines is optimum on a stringer. As the plant gets older, you can run more than one stringer.
