Well guys I'm sitting here enjoying my first real home brew! As I said in my introduction post I have tried a few other times with a Mr.beer to start with and then I tried a few times with a very shoty home-made set up. All previous attempts were not good resulting in poor tasting beers.
This time around I joined this community, did alot of reading and bought a good intermediate set up. Did I mention that I did ALOT of reading? So after all that I decided on a brown ale. I made some adjustments to the recipes adding some grains, cara-pils (sp?) and fresh malt. I went with some cascade hops, and 2 pounds of malt extract. 2 packages of muttons yeast (just to be sure with all the malt I added. Fermented for a week, racked to the secondary. Cleared for a week. Racked to the keg and forced carbonated for 24 hours.
Today I got home and got to tap my first real home brew and success at home brewing. It's a little on the hoppy side 2 oz might have been a bit much for my tastes, I like less hoppy beers.
Man this is great! I've only had 3 pints and I'm already buzzed! What fun this whole process was. I know now that I"m hooked and I'll be home brewing for a while to come. Actually I already have my next beer planned. I'm going to do a imperial stout. From the looks of the recipe it should right up my alley!
Here are a few pics I snapped along the way. Hope you enjoy!
