i have been using buckets to ferment in and they are getting old .what size of glass carboy's do you need to use to primary and secondary in . i have 2 5 gallon ones from wine making. are they big egough to use or do i need 6 gallon size?

Well, it depends on the size of your batch, of course! :cross:

6 gallons would be the minimum for a 5 gallon batch. 5 gallons are fine for a 4.8 gallon secondary though.

Personally, I like the glass 6.5ers for primarys because they're easier to scrub clean if you've got gunk in them.

I use the 6 gal size Better Bottle. Much lighter than glass and won't shatter if you drop it (been there, done that). Works great for a 5 gal batch of beer.

Cheers,
Ken
