All right, so my new refractometer just arrived today.
I am thrilled, this thing is cool.

I heard that they can not make accurate measurements when there is alcohol in the solution ie post fermentation reading.
I have found calculators on line that allow you to enter your Original Brix and your Final Brix and it will calculate your %ABV and %ABW

is it as acurrate as a good hydrometer?

Brewing at home, definitely. But commercial production must be much more precise. The advantage of refractometers is the small sample of wort or must required for a reading, but they use a prism that does not give extremely accurate readings due to differing amounts and types of sugar present in wort, presence of alcohol, and other reasons.
