low abv

Original gravity was perfect, the beer fermented great, but the final gravity was low, it was supposed to be a 5% batch but came out 3.9%. Does anyone have info on why this may have occurred?

If the FG was lower it means your abv is higher. Post some details like the recipe, yeast you used and your OG.

The og was 1.048, the final was 1.018,the final was supposed to be 1.012-1.014, the beer is a stout kit partial mash

How long did you ferment in primary?? Sounds like you just rushed it.

What was the mash temperature you used?? Confirm that the thermometer you used is actually accurate at mash temps.

The mash temp was 156, and it was in primary for two weeks.

There's your sign...

Higher mash temps produce more long chain sugars (which the yeast won't/can't eat) resulting in more body and lower ABV (higher FG)...
