Hi,
I'm just curious about peoples occupations - well actually about the nature of the occupations. I have a feeling that most people who bother to brew their own beer would have a technical background - be it science, engineering, computing etc.
Me - I'm a Software Engineer, have been for 7 years, since I left college.
How bout the rest of ye??

Ken

(apologies if this has already been done - I did a quick search for "jobs" and "work" and saw not a lot for jobs, and 500 for work, and didn't bother sorting out "will this work" from "what do you work at")

I spent 8 years in the Air Force and 5 of that in England, picking up an Industrial Technology education along the way.

Been working in various production facilities since mostly in food processing. BTW, I'm just starting to homebrew and I'm 43 years old.

I didn't know how to respond. I'm a cameraman/editor for an advertising agency. I majored in Mass Communications/Corporate video. But I also have a minor in Zoology. I guess that's technical. But I don't consider myself to be THAT technically minded, So I voted "not at all."

I already know the final results of this poll, ;) and I also know that some of you are fibbing.

Long time computer techie (20y). IT Director specifically now so the rest of you geeks get back to work :D ;) (as I type this at work)

Me, I'm a US Army Weapons Specialist. I've been working with small arms (machine guns, pistols, rifles, mortars) and artillery (too amny to list) since 1972. I've also worked on assorted mine laying and destroying equipment (C4), Nuclear, Biological and Chemical weapons, as well as the M1 Tank, M2 Bradley and the Apache and Kiowa helicopter armaments. :D

I've also played guitar since 1971.

Another yea from me. Graduated in 81 with a degree in Math, kicked around a few years trying to find something I liked. Finally settled in on tech support(hardware/software) Currently working in a Command Center for a large national bank that shall remain nameless(since I also do most of my posting at work :D )

im no math wiz- but i am a bit of a computer junkie. im the art director for a graphics firm in NJ. artists brew beer too :p

I used to be a techie - ran a help desk for a bank. Now I'm a cop. I don't know which is worse. I'm also looking into starting my own business (a bar, naturally)

Hmm, well there both angry customers (are bad guys customers?) and prefer not to talk to you if they can avoid it :D. I bet you could come up with a lot of similarities if you try!

When I'm not doing guitar overdubs for Clapton, I moonlight as an international man of intrigue. Would you believe an intercounty man of intrigue? O.K. , I'm the local Cable Guy. Hi, I'm Wesley , and I've been the cable man for 17 years. Was gonna be a British lit. teacher once, but I found out that I'd never get to crawl under houses, get called out at night and weekends, or climb poles. That was close. I almost missed out on all that. I voted yes on technical. It kinda is.

I've been in the computer field for 20 years. Started out as a computer programmer and worked my way up to Database Administrator. If you call 24/7 working your way up. I should have been Eric Clapton but resigned myself to lack of talent and confine my music to my wife , a few friends ,10 cats and a dog. I have a Strat which sends the cats to the ceiling and a Guild I play on the porch. My wife loves it when I sing to her as long as shes in the other room. My in-laws actually have talent and do gigs in the Austin Bars and every once in awhile come by and jam on the porch. I think they like the homebrew better than my musical talents though.

So you're more like the Jeff Goldblume/Independence Day kind of cable guy (as opposed to that git er done guy)

Scott, what are you waiting on?
Soooooo much beer to brew and sooooo little time.

Go ahead and "Get uR Done"

I'm a weather forecaster for the USAF. Been doing it for 12 years now. I guess that's technical, but there's a little art involved as well. Kinda like brewing. :D

Sorry to say that I'm more like the Jim Carey type idiot/ cable guy. Can't help it. I smoked dope once under a doctor's close supervision, and I've been like this ever since. No glaucoma, though!

Sorry, but when I read your reply, then your signature, I had to laugh. :D

Yep, there's nothing like a homebrew after a day of teaching and coaching 6,7,8th graders to help keep one's sanity.

Oh, I forgot, June,July, and August.

I'm in technical sales; I've always worked for some sort of manufacturing firm. But I was lousy at math & science in school. I studied communications and took some business courses in college, but my real hope and dream was to be a singer/songwriter/guitarist in a rock band.

I eventually took music theory courses and, as part of my music studies, took three semesters of audio engineering. I was always a stereo/audio buff. Well, I had to learn electronics and build a Heathkit in order to move into the second semester of that audio engineering course. Turns out I had a knack for it! Who knew?! And I've been in some kind of technical occupation ever since!

Dang, is everybody on this board a frustrated rock star

Except for me of course...I'm a frustrated blues/blue grass/rock fusion fiddle star. :D

There seems to be a musician/ wish we were rockstars/ doing tech. stuff for a living angle here. I see a pattern, kinda. Music, beer , electronics... We are the Clash. El P., you can play the part of Jimi Acuff. ;)

Told you, man. Wrong forum. Look me up on Beeflover .com. I'm listed as udderly satisfied there. For any brewing members of PETA ( People Eating Tasty Animals), I'm only kidding. Maybe I should say joking. Livestock lovin' seems to be a sort of Southern humor. It's only serious if you're from Ohio.

Not me. I actually played for several years on stage with several bands.

I still have all of my equipment. I was even playing tonight.

I never quit my day job though. I retire in 4 years. :D

Sudster_ Yeah, that was me. Can't say it was one of my finer moments. The picture captures the point in time when I finally realized that I was at South of the Border, the cheesiest place on I-95. In this picture, I'm paying for 14 gallons of unleaded and lunch for a family of four. They're kinda steep there. :(

I can tell I'm gonna have a hard time keepin up with you two tonight...especially since I've got to stay sober till 9 so I can pick up the kid from school. CMAR :(
