I'm in the planning stage of my future HERMS build and had a question pertaining to location. I have a 200 A panel in my basement where I would like to place the system and I have 3 open breakers (could consilidate and make room for a 4th). There are a couple places I can tie into the existing plumbing for supply and drain so I'd like to keep it in the basement if possible. I have a 100 A panel in the garage with several open breakers but no water/drain.

If I'm reading all these threads correctly a 60 A GFCI protected load center should suffice for 10 gal batches correct? I dread the thought of starting a brew day in an unheated garage in central Ohio during february!! Please tell me I have enough room in my basement!

Thanks in advance, ya'll rock!

A 5500w heater uses ~23 amps at 240V. Motors take a couple amps each. 60amps is plenty. I found a 50AMP gfci breaker on ebay for $40 and run my 240 and 120 stuff through it.

I use a 50 amp GFI breaker for 30 gallon batches. My boil kettle has two 4500 watt elements. I think a 50 amp GFI breaker would be plenty and still give you some room for growth.
