recently dry hopped with 5oz for a DIPA. i added a few marbles like previous batches and slowly dropped the hop bag into the fermenter. it appeared to sink. dry hopped for 9 days. today i opened up the fermenter to rack brew to keg and noticed the bag floating on top. ive used the same method everytime and they always stayed sunk. i assume they floated to the top because i used 5oz (the most ive used yet for a dry hop). the aroma was still good, but im wondering if it could have been better. anybody notice a difference or have this similiar situation? does it even really matter?

It doesn't matter. As long as they are hydrated, the oils will make their way into the beer.
