Hey guys, I put together a video on making EdWort's Apfelwein over the weekend, figured I'd share it. Hope you enjoy!

Man, this stuff is putting off some serious odor. SWMBO isn't enjoying this during fermentation, but I think she will be pleased with the end result.

The sulfur smell is definitely subsiding, but this thing is still bubbling away. Very interested to see how this turns out.

Hey cool vid I saw you on youtube earlier today ( this video ) I'm brewing the exact same recipe except I didn't use brown sugar I used corn sugar. In retrospect I should have did as you. I'm 4 days into this apfelwein and I dont have any weird smells am I lucky or did I do something wrong? This is my first apfelwein and don't really know what to expect.

p.s. I used vodka in my airlock if that makes a difference.

I guess I should have said in my tag that I have a small batch of this going in a Mr Beer. No documentation or science behind it. I sanitized everything, mixed a cup or two of sugar (table sugar) in and pitched british ale yeast (11g worth I think). There is so much trub that it covers the spout on the cask.

I am more interested to see how yours does though. I'm just planning to leave mine for a while then sample it over time. When I like it I'll bottle it.

Ok nevermind my room smells like something died or deficated in it I guess it's going just fine. I can't believe how bad this apelwein smells right now!!! I hope it gets better.

Told you! Mine has definitely settled down in the past two or three days, after 7 days of fermenting.

How's this coming along?

Good question. Between traveling, people in town visiting, etc., I haven't even looked at it in a few weeks. I'll check on it tonight, maybe take a gravity reading. My goal was to forget about it for a few months, in hopes that the longer it sits on the yeast, the better it will get.

Finally bottled this last night, filled 6 2 Liters and 1 TAD bottle.

Plastic bottles? Why not glass?

I'd be careful keeping them for any extended period of time, plastic is permeable to oxygen.

Didn't have enough glass bottles. If the plastic can hold CO2, how is it permeable to O2? I think that argument is pretty ridiculous, especially since this stuff will probably be gone in a few month.

I wouldn't drink it for a few months, honestly, as AW tastes like hoochy garbage (IMO) unless it is aged. just an fyi.

I cracked open one of the two liters last weekend, and it was pretty damn tasty already. My wife and I and another couple friend of ours easily finished the 2 liter. I think ale or lager yeast on this one, plus the brown sugar, made it very interesting.
