Ok. I am learning as I go with brewing and sometimes make some bad assumptions. I have cleaned bottle caps with iodophor and I have cleaned them with vodka. I ran out of vodka and iodophor in the same batch and i used the lightest alcohol I had left. This was a light rum. I notice a rummy aftertaste in some of the beers (probably ones that the caps didn't dry as well.

What does everyone else do to clean the bottle caps? What are other mistakes like this one I should try to avoid?

I'm guessing by "clean" you mean "sanitize". I do the same thing to the bottle caps as everything else that touches the beer: Starsan soak.

I would be concerned with the fact that you bottled without sanitizing things.

One should sanitize the bottles, bottling bucket, spigot, bottle wand, hoses, etc. Not just the caps.

+1 to boiling them :)

and +1 to star-san
