Water Treatment

Do any of you do anything in the way of water treatment to your brew water?

Here in the Detroit area we have pretty good water from the Detroit water system. Other than filtering it to remove the chlorination, is there anything else I should do? Or, should I even worry about that?

If you can drink your tap water, you can brew with it. chlorine (or rather chloramine) may not even be at high enough levels to matter.

in Detroit, they probably are. Here in Lincoln, I don't even worry about it.

however, if you're goal is to make true to style beers of the world, then you might need to monkey around more with water chemistry to achieve the right pH and hardness. you need soft water for a pilsner but harder water for a good irish stout.

Dragonmead is great, but we (SWMBO and I) go to Sherwood's more often as it's closer to home. Still have several other places to try sometime also, but we usually don't plan it well enough and just end up at the regular haunts...
