Anyone Brew any of these? Both? What did you think?

I can only brew 1 time for a while. I want to do a big one and put it to bed for the year.

Open to any other imperial recipe suggestions.

Another kit that caught my eye was Northern Brewers "Lord Fat Bottom" Barley wine.

Thanks

Northern Brewer's prices always seemed out of wack so I've always went with Midwest. I haven't brewed their Imp Stout, but I was looking at it today and thinking about it.

Austin Homebrew has the best kits, hands down. They do NOT skimp on ingredients to pad their profit margins.

I have ordered from other suppliers (which will remain nameless) and I found that their kits were quite 'vanilla' and lacked the attention to detail that AHS puts into their product.

Just my opinion.

Austin Homebrew is on my radar. I seen somthing on thier Pliny clone. Midwest and Northern are my local shops and I want to go with these places on this one. Thank you

You should get the AHB, I'll get the Midwest and we'll trade beers and recipes.

This one is from HOP-HEAD in the recipe/ingredients forum...

3.75 lbs Briess Lt DME
6.6 lbs Coopers Lt LME (15 minutes)
1.0 lb Carastan Malt (35° L)
0.5 lb Brown Malt (60°L)
0.5 lb Chocolate Malt
1.0 lb Crystal Malt (120° L)
0.25 lb Roasted Black Barley
~3 oz. Culster - 60 min
~1 oz. Northern Brewer - 2 min
~ 0.75 oz. Centennial - 2 min
White Labs WLP001 (California Ale) - Though I'll likely use Notty or S-04.

I like both kits, Lord Fatbottom is pretty sweet, but weighs about 16 pounds - it's way way big.

Thanks everybody for the recipes and suggestions. The AHS kits look very cool Forest. I am a little concerned with timing out the shipping to MN and freezing while in transit. I got to work out some details on my BIG brew day. I won’t be able to brew till January. I am only home for two weeks.

I've done the Northern Brewer kit a couple of times and used it to get a feel for RIS's before altering to suit my tastes. I was very happy with the result. Also, as you live in MN, Northern Brewer's flagship store is in the Twin Cities. If you get their kit, I subbed us-05 for s-04, as I like my stouts on the dry side.
