Can anyone here get me close to the Sam Adams Octoberfest? It has to be extract, I'm not set up for AG yet.

Thanks!

i cant help you unless you answer whether you can lager or not...there are ale clones as well, which arent as close.

(from Wiki) Traditionally Oktoberfestbiers were the lagers of around 5.5 to 6% abv called Märzen - brewed in March and allowed to ferment slowly during the summer months.

From Sam Adams' site:
The first thing you notice when pouring a glass of this seasonal beer is the color. Samuel Adams® Octoberfest has a rich, deep golden amber hue which itself is reflective of the season. Samuel Adams® Octoberfest is a malt lover's dream, masterfully blending together five roasts of barley to create a delicious harmony of sweet flavors including caramel and toffee. The beer is kept from being overly sweet by the elegant bitterness imparted by the German Noble hops. Samuel Adams® Octoberfest provides a wonderful transition from the lighter beers of summer to the winter's heartier brews.
Samuel Adams® Octoberfest is brewed using five different roasts of malted barley. A decoction mash as well as a secondary fermentation add to this beer's unique malt character.
Color: Red to Golden Amber
OG 14* Plato
180 Calories / 12 oz serving
5.4% ABV
Malt type: Two-Row Harrington, Metcalfe, Munich 10*L, 2-Row Moravian, Caramel 60*L
Hops: Tettnang and Hallertau-Mittelfruh
Yeast: Bottom-fermenting lager yeast

That should be enough info to make you dangerous. Without the ability to lager, you won't be able to reproduce SA's Oktoberfest. Sorry. You WILL, however, be able to brew BierMuncher or EdWort's OktoberFAST Ale. It's an ale, with a ale yeast, that mimics the clean taste of a traditional Marzen/Oktoberfest.

Cheers.

Thanks, Chriso. I'll give those a try. My EdWort's Apple Wine is about ready to bottle up... can't wait.

I was gonna recommend Edwort Oktoberfest Ale, or a classic marzen if u were in it for the long lagering process. I made the Edwort one recently and it is great.
