Washington Homebrewers from all over the state have joined forces to create WAHA (Washington Homebrewer's Association). ''It's an organization designed to assist Washington homebrewers and homebrewing clubs in the advancement of homebrewing in Washington.'' said Mark Emiley, one of the organization's founders. ''While not being a club itself, it will serve as a launching board for coordinating club activities, getting new brewers started and hooked up with local resources, and to organize larger activities in Washington.'' All the homebrew clubs will continue their independence as well as being part of this group.
One of the first events that WAHA is co-sponsoring along with Larry's Brewing Supply and Diamond Knot Brewery is the Fourth Annual Homebrew Fair to be held on June 21st.
This unique event was designed to help give homebrewers personal feedback on their beer and advance homebrew recognition in the community by bringing together all of the local homebrewers and clubs. The event is moving this year from Seattle's Phinney Ridge Neighborhood Association building to Larry's Brewing Supply in Kent to allow more flexibility.
It will feature lectures and demonstrations, as well as the opportunity to meet other brewers in the area. There will also be a unique competition where brewers will bring their entries with them on the day of the event. BJCP judges and professional brewers will evaluate the beers and then the homebrewer is admitted to the room so the results can be discussed with them personally.
