So after 3 batches of uncarbed root beer i just realized that i had been using gatorade gallon jugs to carb, and since gatorade is not carbonated that would probably be the cause. I'm gonna try some soda bottles and see if it gets the job done.

Anybody else think that using a gatorade bottle to carb is the problem?

No, as long as the bottle seals, which Gatorade bottles do, it should carb.

How long and what temp are you waiting after pitching the yeast?

What's the SG. of the rood beer before you pitch? Very high levels of sugar will make it hard for the yeast to get started.

its very possible gatorade bottles aren't sealing tight enough. its not a carbonated beverage, so it just needs to hold a negative seal until first opened.

I bet the could be sealed if you really wrenched down on the cap, more than just 'snug' by hand.
