is there a difference (other than color of the disconnects and the groove in the posts)?

yes, 1 is larger than the other and puttin them on the wrong post will cause it to get stuck and a pain to get off, but entirely possible.

ball lock, sorry. ;)

i have ruined one beverage disconnect (it was on the beverage post [i thought]). however, thanks to the previous owner of the keg i determined i have two 'gas' posts... lucky me. in the past week, i've been through two co2 tanks so i am assuming there's a leak on the beverage side as i had to all but force the disconnect on the incorrect post.

The flanges on the posts are different as well as the location of the balls in the QDs.

The grey QD gets placed on the smaller flange, black on the larger.

Also remember GIGBOB, gas in grey, beer out black. ;)
