Woot, I have Friday off and am going to brew. I need recipe help. I need an APA or IPA recipe. It needs to be proven. Yes, i've made Ed's haus pale. I will list my ingredients and hops, the glacier, vanguard and half the willamette are spoken for. Also these are the hops I haven't tried yet, zeus, simcoe, and nugget. Bonus points for incorporating one or more of these. Winner to receive 2 ounces of 08 crop Cascade pellet hops! It aint much, but it's something, so get to posting your favorite APA or IPA recipe. Contest ends at midnight cst on Thursday. :mug:

Oops almost forgot, it will have to be either 05 or notties yeast.

This is current list of my ingredients and hops!

OG 1.070
FG 1.015
IBU 99

11lb 2-row
.33lb 120
.25lb wheat

.75 Galena FWH
.75 Galena 60
1.5 Horizon 15
1 Cascade 0
1 Cascade DH

and it is damn good with S-05

I've got the original waiting to be kegged Saturday with Notty

Never mind on the IPA i was trying to find, i cant and its frustrating me

I did this and is pretty good

8lbs pale 2-row
1lb munic malt
.5lb crystal 10

Cascade 90min
Vanguard 15min

US-05 as yeast

Ibu 30.8

Batch 5 gal

Fermented 14days at 65F, cold crash and bottled, still carbing

OG:1.059
FG:1.011

SRM 5.9

how about:

12# 2-row
12oz crystal 60

1oz Zues (60min)
1oz Amarillo (25)
1oz Amarillo (15)
1oz Amarillo (5)
1oz Amarillo (dryhop)

US-05 or Nottingham for yeast

I dont have the numbers or anything, because I just came up with this looing at your ingredients. I think it would make a good beer.

Looks like you have everything to make my standard IPA. If you don't have turbinado sugar you can sub any sugar in there to help it dry out

Dude'l Lake Walk Pale Ale. Sub the flaked barley you have for the flaked wheat in the recipe. This is one of the best beers I have ever made, and one of the best pale ales I have ever tasted! :rockin:

If you toast the grains do they have to sit for a while? Or can you use them right away? I read somewhere they need to sit for a week.

My last IPA was good, but it could use a little less from the specialty grains to make it more balanced and drinkable. Here is the revised recipe:

American IPA
For 5.5 gallons
80% Efficiency
OG: 1.067
IBU: 70

Pale Malt 12 lbs.
Munich Malt 0.5 lb.
Crystal 20 6 oz.
Crystal 60 3 oz.

Chinook 12.1% 1oz 60 min
Amarillo 8.0% 0.5 oz 15 min
Cascade 6.8% 0.5 oz 15 min
Centennial 8.6% 0.5 oz 15 min
Amarillo 0.5 oz 5 min
Cascade 0.5 oz 5 min

Here's my stab at it. Scaled version of a 10bbl batch which used to go down quite well with patrons. The scaled version took some tweaking, but I got it to the point where blind tasting couldn't tell the difference.

Dude'l Lake Walk Pale Ale. Sub the flaked barley you have for the flaked wheat in the recipe. This is one of the best beers I have ever made, and one of the best pale ales I have ever tasted! :rockin:

I would definetly suggest this too. This is a great beer. I have talked with a couple people that did not let their grain sit and it came out fine.

Thanks for all the recipes! My top 3 so far are enderwig, kingbrian, and nq3x, but it's not over keep them coming.:mug:

OK, here's my go. This is based on one of the 3 beers I've brewed (out of 100+ batches). I'll call it an APA -- it tops out right at the upper range of OG, FG, color, & IBU.

8 lbs 2 Row
1.5 lbs Munich
1 lb 60L Crystal
.5 lb Toasted 2 row (20 minutes at 350F, stir it after 10 minutes)

(Crush the toasted with a rolling pin. It doesn't need to sit except to cool down.)

Straight infusion mash at 153F for about a hour.

60 minute boil
.5 oz Nugget (60 minutes)
.5 oz Nugget (30 minutes)
1 oz Simcoe (2 minutes)
1 oz Simcoe (dry hop for final 7 days before kegging)

When I brewed this I used Bullion hops instead of Nugget, but they'll work fine swapped out. I'd use the 05 for yeast to really make it an APA.

With 75% eff, this should end up around 1.059 OG, 1.015 FG, 12.0 SRM, and 44 IBU (depending of the AA of your particular hops). All of this puts it at the absolute upper limit of, but inside, the Style Characteristics. Have fun with it if you use it.

how about:

12# 2-row
12oz crystal 60

1oz Zues (60min)
1oz Amarillo (25)
1oz Amarillo (15)
1oz Amarillo (5)
1oz Amarillo (dryhop)

US-05 or Nottingham for yeast

I dont have the numbers or anything, because I just came up with this looing at your ingredients. I think it would make a good beer.

Replace the zues with simcoe and you got yourself and EXCELLENT recipe.
Simcoe and Amarillo go really good together.

There are only a couple of hops substitutions, but they are very similar in AAU%.

This is a go-to APA at my house. First Wort Hopping and very late additions keep the IBU’s down, but the hops aroma/flavor through the roof. This one took 2nd place for Light Ales (a combined category for this particular competition) and was the top scoring APA.

If you’re a fan of Kona, this is very similar in malt profile and hop flavor. It’s pretty simple and makes the most out of your inventory of hops.

First off, thanks to everyone who submitted a recipe. There were some good ones and I will be trying them in the near future. But there can be only one, and it has to be Dudes Lake Walk. So since he didn't submit it Enderwig wins! I'm off to brew this now, so Enderwig pm me your address and i'll get those hops out today. Thanks again everyone!:mug:
