When at first when I saw your photo I was a little lost with that valve on the lid. Im taking a stab at how yours works,
Step 1 water in disco 90 tee 90 hose spinner get two inches water on grain.

I do not use this valve for flow regulation, only for flow direction. with the valve open as it is in the pic the water (Hot Liquor) flow the path of least restriction and thus back into the HLT and not to the fly sparger. with the valve closed it ONLY flows to the fly sparger. any rate adjustment is made on the valves on the march pumps.
