Posting a Question for a friend who has not signed on to this site yet.

He wants to do an IPA and has a good supply of pecan wood in his yard.

Anyone used local woods in secondary to "wood up" an IPA?
Anyone use pecan?
Would like to find some birch to experiment with if the pecan works out...

Wood is pretty dry but not bone dry. Was planning on chipping with an axe, baking in the oven to dry fully (150° for an hour or two or more). sanitize by steaming an ounce or two before adding to secondary for about a week

thoughts recommendations greatly appreciated.
