Hey All,

Brewing up a rye stout tomorrow which is based off of Yoopers Oatmeal stout grain bill.

OG. 1.050
FG. 1.014
yeast Wyeast Northwest Ale (1332)

5 lb Maris otter
2 lb rye malt
.5 chocolate malt
.5 roasted barley
.5 C80
1 lb victory
1 lb flaked rye

Hops
60 min - 10% northern brewer (34 ibus)

i went with northern brewer because i think it will meld well with the rye.

The questions are..

Should i add more hops and make it more of an american stout? maybe 40-45 ibus

should i mash a little lower to make it a dry stout.. could go good with the rye perhaps??

This is the first beer i have done with rye.

Any feedback, changes, or criticism is welcome!

This turned out incredible. A full bodied Rye Stout.

Its been kegged for about a week and it is already fantastic.

Ended up at
1.048 OG
1.016 FG
36 IBU - Northern Brewer

The northern brewer and slight spiciness from the rye blend wonderfully.

Thanks to Yooper for the original base recipe. I would have never tried this if i didnt have such great success with her Oatmeal Stout recipe.
