Ya see, I have about 3 ounces of Whole Leaf Chinook Hops left in the freezer, and they need to be used. I usually use them for my Red Ale, but I really don't want to Brew another Red Ale. Anyone have any thoughts on ANY Style beer that uses Chinook? BTW, I will be brewing All Grain.

northern brewer sells an all chinook ipa. i like it. they show the recipe on their website.(extract version)

12 lbs - 2 Row Malt
1.25 lbs. - Crystal 120

1.25 oz - Chinook (60 min.)
1 oz - Chinook (30 min.)
1 oz - Chinook at FlameOut

This is a bit lighter than Arrogant Bastard, but the taste is close.

Wanna trade for some Fuggles? HBU for HBU?

I have pounds of Fuggles at 4.2 and 4.4 per cents.

What is the AA on those Chinook?

I got some 9.8 Amarillo laying around too...

Definitelyl an AB clone! I love that beer. I used maris otter malt the last time, and I loved it. I used 11 pounds MO, 1.5 pounds crystal 120, and 2.75 ounces chinook. Great beer!

These sound good. I have a pound of Chinook and no other hops at the moment. I think I am going to try the first suggestion and maybe add something darker to it like roasted barley... maybe 1/4lb.

Would you care to share the recipe? I have some malted rye i could use in this.

Have you ever put any rye in a stout or porter type ale?

cool. I'm going to try that. I'm not much of a recipe guy... I just use them for ideas and general guidelines. I needed to know it is acceptable so i can give it a try.

thx

side note - I was raised in Chester, north of Deep River and Essex. Miss CT, but love Colorado.

I'm making an all-chinook IPA. I'm using 2-row, melanoidin, and cara-foam (same ingredients that Rogue uses for yellow snow):

80% 2-row
10% melanoidin
10% carapils
1/2oz Chinook @ 60
1oz Chinook @20
1oz Chinook @0 (steep for 20)
2oz Chinook Dry

Adjust grains to an OG of 1.055, mash at 155, ferment with 1272.

It's not quite ready yet, but when I racked it over to a keg, it was tasting pretty delicious. Perhaps a tad too much melanoidin - I might drop it to 5% next time.
