Condensation on 40qt Kettle

I was boiling 6 gallons of water in my aluminum 40qt kettle to build up the oxidation layer. While boiling I noticed a ton of condensation on the side and bottle of the kettle, to the point where I could hear it sizzling as the fire burned it off. Is this normal?
