I had this idea last night for a wheat beer/APA hybrid and was wondering what people thought about this. I think it could work if you're not too aggressive with the wheat so it doesn't overshadow the hop flavor and aroma. Here's the recipe I came up with:

2 lbs Wheat DME
2 lbs Light DME
1 lb Pale 2-row
1 lb Munich
1 lb Vienna
.5 lbs flaked wheat

.5 oz Columbus @ 13.5 AA for 60 min
1 oz Cascade @ 7.2 AA for 20 min
1 oz Amarillo @ 9.3 AA for 10 min
1 oz Amarillo/1 oz Columbus dry hop for 2 weeks

WLP001

Thoughts?

I did an all wheat DME experiment with WLP001. The final result was a beer with zero wheat character. Still tasted good.

Ever had a gumballhead from Three Floyds?

Great stuff.

This was an all-grain clone attempt. It wasn't very close to the original, but very tasty.

I think your recipe looks good, but if it were me, I'd back off the Munich/Vienna a bit otherwise the maltiness there might have a tendancy to overshadow the nice clean wheat.

Also, is your wheat DME 50/50 wheat and 2-row? If so, then I'd see no problem just going 100% with the wheat DME and then your character grains.
