So i made my first wyeast propagator starter per direction on the bag. It called for 8 cups water and 2 cups DME.

I thought to my self that this is a big starter for a normal gravity beer. Midwest's Honey Weizen. I made it to the directions and i ended up waking up to a big mess. It had fermented hard and came out the top of my flask and there was a sticky slime all over.

Are there any good resources where i can determine cell count based on started cells and size of starter. Or is the direction from wyeast the way to go?

so it seems i needed 1.35 litters insted of 2 so my guess is wyeat rounds up just incase your brewing a higher gravity beer. From what i have read for us home brewers it doesnt hurt to have a bigger starter.
