I have a quick question for everyone on the board. Austin Homebrew sells a 1% alcohol boost with their beer kits for ~$1.50. I was wondering if anyone knows what exactly is contained in this alcohol boost. Is it just extra sugar?

Along these lines, if I wanted to do the same without using this alcohol boost kit, what would i need to do? I've heard of people using a couple of carbonation drops and putting them in the primary with the wort. Would this significantly change the flavor of the beer?

I may try to push the envelope with a future beer as an experiment. See how far i can go without putting the flavor off.

BTW, this is in no way related to the fact that my first beer (bottled) has an ABV around 2.5%. In no way at all.... :fro:

Just follow the instructions and you'll get a beer around 4% to 5%
Go for a few standard brews and get it right first before trying to experiment.
Get the method right and understand what's going righ or rong.

You need to understand what adding bits does.

Have a read of www.howtobrew.com and maybe download beersmith and have a play.
