I've heard a lot off buzz surrounding the new Falconer's Flight hop pellets (a blend of Pacific Northwest Hops) and decided to make a Pale Ale to feature this hop from a 2 oz. packet I picked up at my LHBS.

I'm basing the grain bill from Dude's Lake Walk Pale Ale (my favorite pale ale) and using magnum for bittering.

Thoughts on the recipe below?

Looks like we have similar hop schedule - though I only have 2oz to work with.

How did it turn out? Was the Falconer's a unique flavor, or pretty comparable to blending simcoe/amarillo/citra/whatever?

Looks Yummy. I am curious about falconer's flight but have been hesitant to use it because I don't know whats in it. I might get a Pound because I cant get any Simcoe in bulk. I'm Guessing you are toasting your own malt to simulate some victory or something. What is your procedure? About what lovabond do you think it ends up at?

Looks like your recipe calls for 2.25 oz, might want to check that.

Yep, I toast it at about 275° for about 30 minutes, stir it halfway through per Dude's Lake Walk recipe. Not sure on the *L but it doesn't come out too dark at all, probably about 20L*?

thanks for pointing out the mistake in measurement, I need to correct that ;-) I'll drop .25 oz off the 5 min aroma addition.

I've never been sure what time to use for aroma when also doing a dry hop: 5 mins? 2 mins? Flame out?

I did an IPA with 10 oz. of Falconer's Flight... it was fairly good. I probably wouldn't do another beer with only this blend though.

Mind elaborating?

P.S. - I bought the Hops at Stein Fillers in LB - one of the few places left that has Simcoe...

2 lbs of toasted might be too much depending on how much you toast it. I use about 1 pound of toasted raw wheat in mine. I toast it at 300F for 20 minutes turning it once at 10 minutes. Other than the I think your beer looks good.

I made an IPA with only Falconer's and thought it was a little to mellow. My second one I used some other hops to add bite and a little different flavor. Here it is.
