Guys, I have no intention at this time to automate my gas supply however I had the untimely reason to exchange my water heater for one that holds water and does not leak like a sieve.

It is a Kenmore Water Heater approx 23 yr old. Gas system worked fine.

Question is, do I salvage the valve setup for possible trade or future reuse or is there something about water heater valves that are different from heater valves?

I dont think the thermostat on the water heater valve will get you up to tempature that would be useful... The limit is probably 140f. If its a propane valve the main burner outlet maybe 1/2 left handed thread inverted flarewhich may be difficult to find connections for a different valve...that should have the cast iron burner in it which could be useful enough for a mlt/mt burner..
