I have an older cooler that I am converting into a Mash Tun. Is high temp (black) RTV/Silicone an acceptable compound to seal hardware? I also have a small < 1" crack that I need to fill as well. Thanks in advance.

Not really sure about black rtv sealant. I am currently using DAP 100% pure silicone sealant available at ACE True Value Hardware. I believe it to be food safe?? Not sure you need the "high temp" as regular silicone is rated high enough for mash temps. Avoid any sealants w/ a mildewcide! Generally my feeling is most ar inert post curing..??
