They tell me my water is hard. Tastes like doo-doo. Been using Brita's for years.

Tap water report from my local water guys:
Total Hardness (avg): 401
Iron AS FE mg/l: 0.1
Ph: 7.45-7.58
Total Alakalinity as CaCO3 (mg/l): 256
They didn't give me much else. PhosphateXortho=1.1

I started using water out of one of those dispensers in the grocery store that does the reverse osmosis, carbon filtration, etc. Seems to be missing something.

Read in the beginner's forum:
Don't use unmodified distilled water for all grain.

Just did my 2nd AG batch. How should I treat this stuff - if at all?

Maybe send it out somewhere for testing? Where?

Thanks,

Dave

My water blows too, so we have a softener, so now I have salt water.

I use 1/2 Distilled and 1/2 Spring water. Nothing scientific, but it makes great beer and I get 82% eff. so I think that the profile is OK for most beers.
