Trouble with a seal

But, I cannot get one of the kettles to seal. This scheme has an O-ring inside the kettle with an nut. I've reset the element three times with varying amounts of torque...cannot make it seal.

Any ideas that use my hardware configuration?

Wow, worked like a champ.
Now I wonder if I should reverse my 'non-leaking' kettle.
I also forgot on the first kettle to use teflon tape.
