A recipe I am going to do calls for .5 lb of American 10 L and a .5 pound of American 20 L crystal for steeping. I forgot to order these in my order, but I have British crystal 65 L could I just substitute .5 pound of this instead of the American Crystal?

Would the taste be a lot different?

No two malts are exactly the same, but that said I think American and British Crystal are pretty darn close. Only problem with your scenario is 65 L is much darker than 10 or 20 L. I would still sub it if I were you rather than go through the hassle, but you'll definately get a darker beer than the recipe intends. It will still be good I'm sure though.
