All that's left is an across-the-board pay cut for state employees and the budget's all fixed, right?

For one selfish reason, I'm glad this is going through (it indirectly relates to me maintaining employment). For many other reasons, I wish it weren't.

I don't see how this harms anybody other than some casinos. I don't want it turning into another vegas or AC but I think it is a great thing.

There were so many dancing bananas in your post, I wasn't sure if you were serious or sarcastic. I don't have anything against gambling. I just think we need to focus on getting more industry in this state, not on getting more casinos. It's different up where you are, but down here we're just going to have chicken farms and now a racino.

I heard a little bit about this on WIP sports radio on the way in to work today.

Seems it has something to do with Delaware being grandfathered in on Sports betting due to some kind of parlay bets in the 1970's ? But now, they can only allow sports betting if its a parlay bet again?

Also - no betting was allowed on in-state teams - so you can't bet on the Delaware State Blue Hens :(

No, I was serious. I have been following and waiting for this for a while now. I think there are other solutions that can and should be done as well but this was really going to be the quick and easy fix. It will give the state time to really get their stuff together and do some other things too.

The NCAA has said that if DE passes the law then no delaware college will be able to have a home playoff game. I hadn't heard about not being able to bet on them at all though. And my understand was that you could ONLY do parlay bets.

Legalize and tax is one of the best new revenue streams I can think of. People are going to throw their money away no matter how illegal you make it. Might as well take a cut if you can.

I guess my taxes are going to have to go up even more to compensate.

:off:

Seriously, everything I am hearing about the plans to balance the budget in NJ is just to find more creative ways of taking it out of the taxpayers pockets. I see little to nothing being done to reduce spending or reducing government. Even the plan for government worker furloughs doesn't sound like it will work. What I am hearing the plan to make that back is to give overtime to workers while the others are off to "cover for them" so in the end no money is saved. Every plan even if it does not directly come from my pocket eventually down the line it will.

EXAMPLE: Cut funding to local municipalities.

Where do you think that money is going to come from? Might as well just take it and be done with it instead of creating all these stealthy ways of taking money from you in the end anyway.

Sorry for going off on my own personal rant. :(

test test test

Just a test to see why in another thread when I reply with hundreds of characters it still tells me I need more than 10.

I'm all for it. I hate the drive to AC.

I do like that they snuck table games in as well. You put a craps table in, and I will be there. :)

Much better, though, than Maryland's lame "slots" that finally got allowed - only to end up where there are so many problems it looks like we'll never get them anyway!

Exactly!!! I think other things should be legalized too but thats not for this thread.

I am less than 10 minutes from Delaware park! Ill meet you there for a beer and losing some money. :mug:

State or Federal, it doesn't matter...the only REAL way to control a budget is to stop overspending.

If you can't afford a program then cut it.

There's no reason to add new taxes and fees if you don't overspend.

So much for all the overpriced college graduate experts out there...
