No. First rule to remember: Never give up on or dump a beer!
Just clean up the mess, spray sanitizer around and resanitize your airlock -- or put in a blow-off setup. Keep in mind some large commercial breweries use open fermenters with no lid. There is a protective layer of CO2 covering the top of your brew.

welcome Allstar
don't worry - your beer will be fine. clean and re sanitize your airlock. look into putting on a blow off tube. clogged airlocks can make a big mess and mopping the ceiling sucks

A blow off is a tube running out if the bung and into a bucket of water.. It allows out flow of gas and krausen...

An airlock is a small setup that plugs into the bung which let's excess gasses escape but nothing enter...

Essentially, they do the same thing but a blow off allows krausen to exit without making a mess...

Blowoff tubes (into pitchers of water). A blowoff tube is really just a giant airlock, big enough to pass gobs of krausen. Only the center has an airlock, others have tubing stuck into the airlock hole in the bung.

third rule is to relax and have a homebrew, some would say, that is the beer brewers golden rule.

Wrong. Go ahead and try one as soon as you want. For god's sake, it's your first beer, have one whenever you want. They do get better with a bit of age in the bottle, but most taste fine after one week.

I agree. try one in a week then try one in another week. the only way your going to learn how YOUR beer changes with age is tasting :tank:

yeah try it but dont be disapointed if its not ready yet, duhh winning, new brewer.hmm
