After soaking some bottles overnight in Oxiclean Free, it left a white film on the bottles.

I used about 3/4 of a scoop in about 4 gallons of water.

Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks.

Mark.

This is common actually- some starsan should get rid of the ring of film.

I suspect it has to do with water chemistry. Some of us get the film no matter what; I used a weak vinegar rinse (as has been discussed) to good effect.

I just use oxy in my laundry now.

a light scrub with a greenpad will work also

water chemistry definitly plays a role in this formation. mine has a high concentration of iron ions in it. all my white work shirts are tinged orange from it's reaction with chlorine bleach.

Yeah, it happens if your water is hard.

If you are looking to prevent this, you may try using PBW instead. I know it is a bit more expensive, but it has a chelator that will drop the hardness out of the water so that it will rinse away cleanly.

Thanks for the help.

If I do use vinegar to rinse...will it affect the beer in any way?

How much would you use in 4 gallons of water?

Thanks.

Mark.

.

I rinse mine with tap water after the vinegar rinse. The process looks like this:

* soak in oxy, get a film
* drain water, replace with fresh
* add a dollop of vinegar. 3/4 cup? 1 cup? never measured it.
* wait until film is gone
* drain and rinse with tap water

because of my water chem I tried to avoid the whole scenario when possible
