What do you guys think?

Do any of you use beertools.com? I joined the beta program testing thing and I also joined the forum. It looks to be just like HBT.com. I don't think I'll visit there often, what about you guys?

i am a gold member (thank you dr evil) at beer tools. and a member of the beta team. i like beertools

the black patent is gonna make it pretty bitter imho

A half pound of black patent is going to give you a strong burnt toast flavor. I never use more than 4 oz. per batch, but to each his own.

Another thing, why the crystal malt? In a typical dry stout you don't want very much sweetness coming through.

Just for S&G, the famous Guinness dry stout recipe is 90% pale malt, 10% roasted barley. All I'm saying is sometimes simpler is better.

I'm not saying your recipe is inaccurate, it is your beer. I actually think some crystal would be good in it, but not too much.

I agree with the other sentiments, lose the black patent completely.

I'm gonna use Pale ME in my actual recipe but Beertools doesn't have that option for some reason. I'll cut the black patent way down. Thanks guys. I also forgot to add the .25 lbs of flaked oats for the oatmeal texture...

the beta is progressing

it's not up to par with their online app - but it's gettig there. as with any beta - there are a lot of things that need fleshing out
