I am looking to make the leap to all-grain brewing and naturally i have begun researching equipment.

I found this set-up being sold by another brewer on craigslist (theres a picture of the set-up at the end of the listing)
http://newlondon.craigslist.org/for/2020197722.html

Can anyone tell me:
-If this is actually worth $600 (and if not what it is worth)
-How I could verify that the equipment works when I see it

I appreciate any help or advice anyone has to offer

Wow, that's quite a CL find. I'd say that's probably worth around $400 or $500 to ME.

Here are some rough estimates if one was to buy/make/shop around for that stuff themselves:

Converted half keg and quarter keg brew pots with stainless/copper hardware, ball valves, silver solder used throughout. $200
50' .5" copper coil chiller with hose connections $75
1 brew thermometer, 1 dial type $10
Barley Crusher $100
Canister type water filter
Converted Igloo Maxcold mashtun with stainless braid tubing $50
Propane burner mounted on a rack still needs completion but can be used as is. $35?
5 gal. carboy $35
books, ProMash software Promash is $35 and books....
stirplate with flask $75 or so
assorted misc. stuff, sanstar, capper, clamps, tubing $30?

Of course, those are all ROUGH ESTIMATES, so don't take my word for all of them, but they're in the ball park range.

All in all, I'd say it's a nice setup, but I don't think I'd buy it. I'm more of a DIY'er, so most of my stuff was made by me. Also, his brew stand is kinda funky, and I'm perfectly fine with my cooler, propane burner, keggle, and stock pot for brewing AG like many others here on the forum are. If I were to spend a lot of money like that, I'd probably just splurge and buy this http://morebeer.com/view_product/91...less_Frame_Upgrade_For_Gravity_BrewSculptures or this http://www.blichmannengineering.com/brew_stand/brewstand_modular.html

could be worth a little more than my 350-400 estimate, as i convert kegs myself. not much more, though. still, 600 is high.

Thanks lumpher and and half pint! I appreciate the input about the price.

Any thoughts on how to verify/assess the condition of the equipment/soldering/etc.???

Ha - I'm in Trumbull and came across that listing a few weeks back.

As a DIY'er I am choosing to do it for less. That also doesn't look like a full 15.5 gallon keggle. If I were to drop that kind of coin - I'd want the larger keggle.
