The big difference is the swell obviously but in reality it will not make any difference when you boil the wort or mash your grains.

It will make a difference if you want to add a sight glass due to the swell getting in the way. Other than that I don't see a problem.
 
mmmm.... well i was hoping to add a sight glass. i wonder if i just push it out a little further if it'll miss the swell.
 
I use a coors keg for one of my keggles. No plans on adding a sight glass. Side by side with my other keggle there is virtually no difference.

Actually, the sight glass kit from bargainfittings will work with the barrel sided kegs. I've got on one an old keystone keg I just converted... doesn't touch the flared side at all.
 
large sledge hammer works may not be pretty but so what..

I don't use it anymore since I went with two Kettles

LOL, That is awesome. I should probably invest in a BFH it seems to solve about every problem.
