preferred thermometer location on pot

Got a 15 gal pot I am going to use for HLT. Got to put in all fittings so I am wondering the preferred location for the thermometer. I will have a valve, thermometer and a sight glass. I'm considering one of Bobbys combo sight glass/thermo kits but really want as low water gauge as possible so I worry thermal may end up to close to bottom, as well as too close to beer source outside. Leaning to putting in a separate thermometer... Yet another hole. Comments?

I do like having the thermo up a couple inches off the bottom. Other than that, keep it below your minimum batch size obviously.

Meant to say too close to heat source, not beer source.

This is how I installed mine. I kept my five gallon pot for small batches. The sightglass starts to read at around two gallons (not the t fitting and nut in top of fitting below sight glass tube).
